Most rechargeable batteries wear out after a few years. A good quality battery can survive 1000 recharges before it must be disposed of. A laptop battery has low lifespan; say 90 minutes to 2.5 hours. But many people have started using external laptop batteries to increase the lifespan of their notebook when they are outdoors.

For those who use their laptop extensively, especially while traveling, an external battery becomes a vital device so that you can have extended lifespan for your laptop. But extensive use of this battery also means extra wear and tear. This can easily drain your battery in no time and you will soon need to replace it.

There are few tips in which you can use to increase the lifespan of rechargeable external laptop battery.

Do not over-charge the battery. This could lead to battery leaks and damage the device. While charging the battery always keep an eye on the indicator that gives you the status of charging. Normally a red light indicates that the battery is still charging while a green light means that it is fully charged.

Reduce the brightness of your laptop. If your laptop screen is too bright it will drain off the battery pretty soon. Statistics state that reducing the brightness by 1 level can increase the battery life by 10 minutes. Plus low brightness is also good for your eyes.

If you have a built-in Wi-Fi in your notebook, switch it off when not in use. Wi-Fi is known to drain battery at a faster rate.

Condition the battery. This means that when you buy the battery for the first time, charge it completely and then discharge it till it is all run out. Then again charge it to a 100%. This will keep the battery in good condition and increase its lifespan.

Listening to music and watching movies on DVDs and CD can drain your battery. Keep the CD/DVD drives empty by copying the music files and movies to your hard drive.

Clean up unnecessary files. Your CPU needs tremendous battery power to keep all the files active. So delete all unnecessary files, temporary files and any other clutter and keep your computer clean. This will require less effort from your computer to find files and as a result save battery life to a great extent.

If you are on a break or breather, keep your laptop in a hibernation mode instead of standby mode.

Clean out the laptop’s air vent to allow better ventilation. By keeping your computer cool, you will definitely increase battery life.

These tips are valid for both the internal as well as external laptop battery. The more you follow these tips the better the battery life. An external laptop battery is an additional asset to maximize the laptop performance. Maintain it so that you can enjoy its benefits for a longer time.
